The Low Pay Commission (LPC) is seeking evidence on the effects of the national living wage (NLW) and national minimum wage (NMW), to inform its autumn 2024 recommendations to the government on the NLW/NMW rates for April 2025 and beyond.
This year, the LPC is particularly interested in evidence on the following:
- the affordability and effects of an increase in April 2025 to an NLW hourly rate within the range of £11.61 and £12.18, with a central estimate of £11.89
- the impact of the NLW’s April 2024 increase on workers, employers, the labour market and economy
- the impact of the April 2024 extension of the NLW to workers aged 21 and 22
- the effect of the NMW increases on the employment prospects of younger workers
- the effects of the April 2024 NMW increase in the apprentice rate, and its continued alignment with the 16-17 year old rate
- awareness, use and impacts of the accommodation offset.
The consultation closes on 7 June 2024 and the LPC is then expected to report back to the government by the end of October 2024.
