Several of our team attended Accelerating Action for International Women's Day on Friday 7th March 2025.
'Accelerate Action' highlighted the need for gender equality worldwide, calling for increased momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers and biases that women face, both in personal and professional spheres.
While most women and girls enjoy a safe, fulfilled life in Wiltshire and Swindon, there are many who don’t. Harassment, gender-based violence, discrimination and stereotyping are still commonplace. Despite this is a chronic lack of funding – women and girls’ groups receive less than 2 per cent of the UK’s total charitable giving.
There were two inspirational speakers who shared their journeys, and insights on accelerating action for gender equality in their industries and beyond.
Anna Somaiya - her career journey spanned 32 years across the technology industry - provided insights on accelerating action for gender equality through her role as Founder of social enterprise, DiversITy-talent.
Sally Page - talked about her varied career and how she became a Sunday Times best-selling author. She explained why she is a passionate supporter and advocate of Wiltshire Community Foundation’s Women and Girls Fund.
The event was facilitated by Joint CEO of Wiltshire Community Foundation, Fiona Oliver, who talked more about the work of the Foundation and the Women and Girls Fund; a dedicated fund that supports local projects that challenge the inequality, abuse and discrimination experienced by women and girls and advocate for change.
We are proud supporters of the Wiltshire Community Foundation Women and Girls Fund.
