Olympic Gold Medal winner joins Board of South West accountancy firm Charlton Baker

Jason Gardener MBE, winner of a Gold Medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, has joined Charlton Baker’s Board as a Non-Executive Director and Chief Culture Officer.

Jason won an Olympic Gold in the 4 x 100 metres relay with Darren Campbell, Marlon Devonish and Mark Lewis-Francis in a time of 38.07s, their season's best and a monumental win over pre-race favourites – the American team.

Jason represented the Great British Athletics Team for over 13 years in the sprint events (60m, 100m & 4×100 metre relay) where he also won Gold medals at World, Commonwealth and European Championships as well as having the honour of being team captain on many occasions.

Jason continued to work in sport after retiring, serving in Non-Executive roles for UK Athletics, British Athlete Commission, Trustee of London Marathon Charitable Trust and as President of UK Athletics for eight years, and later on, successfully acting as a sports marketing consultant for a number of big household brands.

Jason has been a client of Charlton Baker’s for many years, and has been very impressed by the firm’s culture, and its commitment to its clients and team. After a recent speaking event at a Charlton Baker team away day, it was apparent there were very clear synergies and opportunities between Jason’s experience of team dynamics, culture and high performance, and Charlton Baker’s values and aspirations as it continues to expand across the South West.

Jason said “I am delighted to join Charlton Baker as Chief Culture Officer! I am looking forward to bringing my experience to support the business' focus on continuing to deliver high-performance services. Together, we’ll foster a culture that not only enhances our incredible team but also reflects our passion about being the difference maker for our clients. I’m proud to be part of this journey and can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve together.”

“In 2023 we set ourselves a culture mission to be the most uniquely brilliant professional services firm to work for (ever)” added Scott Sartin, CEO of Charlton Baker. “The appointment of Jason to our Board shows how serious we are about achieving that goal. He knows first-hand what it takes to become the best and we are proud to have him step into the role of Chief Culture Officer”.

It’s a milestone year for Charlton Baker, who this year celebrate their 40th birthday and have expanded with seven acquisitions across the South West.
